HowDoesEnergyConsultingWork?–5StepstoRenovation

Many property owners hesitate to book an energy consultation because they don't know what to expect. Yet the process is clearly structured – and starts with a no-obligation, free initial consultation.

How Does Energy Consulting Work? – 5 Steps to Renovation

Why Energy Consulting Comes Before the First Tradesperson

Anyone who renovates without prior consulting risks expensive mistakes: the wrong heating system, insulation in the wrong place, or measures in an order that blocks later funding. Energy consulting prevents that. It's the strategic groundwork for every sensible renovation project – and the key to actually unlocking funding opportunities.

Here's what to expect, step by step.

Step 1: Free Initial Consultation (30–45 minutes)

We start with a no-obligation conversation – by phone, video call, or on-site. Goal: we understand your property, your plans, your budget. You understand how we work and what's feasible. No sales pitch, no hidden costs. After the initial consultation, you know whether deeper advice makes sense for you.

What to prepare: year built, rough living/usable area, current heating system, ideally your last heating bill. An energy certificate (if available) helps but isn't required.

Step 2: On-Site Inspection (2–4 hours)

If you want to proceed, we come to you. We walk through the building systematically: envelope, heating, ventilation, hot water, electrical. We measure, document, photograph. We listen: what bothers you? What matters to you? Where do you want to be in 10 years?

For larger objects (apartment buildings, listed buildings) the appointment may run longer or be split across two days.

Step 3: Analysis & Renovation Roadmap (2–4 weeks)

From the on-site data, your individual renovation roadmap (iSFP) takes shape. We calculate the current state, simulate different renovation scenarios, and develop a strategically ordered list of measures: what first, what later, what's worth it, what's not. Including funding analysis – which federal and state programmes apply to which measure.

The iSFP is more than a PDF. It's the roadmap you can work with for years – flexible, but with a clear plan.

Step 4: Results Presentation & Consultation Meeting

We meet again – in person or digitally – and walk through the roadmap together. You understand every recommendation, know the cost frames, know which funding programmes apply. You can ask questions, shift priorities, compare scenarios. At the end you have a clear decision basis.

Step 5: Implementation with Optional Construction Supervision

With the roadmap in hand, you decide when and with whom to implement. On request, we can: - take over construction supervision (required for many funding programmes) - help with trade selection - prepare and submit funding applications - handle quality assurance during construction

You're never tied to us. But if you wish, we're at your side from the first conversation to final acceptance.

How long does it all take?

From initial consultation to finished iSFP, expect 4–6 weeks. Smaller objects go faster, complex apartment buildings or heritage properties take longer.

What does energy consulting cost?

The initial consultation is always free. The on-site consultation with iSFP creation is a regulated service whose costs are subsidised by BAFA – you only pay a personal contribution. We discuss the exact conditions transparently in the initial consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to renovate after the consultation? No. You decide freely. The iSFP gives you options, not obligations.

Can I implement only individual measures? Yes. The iSFP is modular. The order is optimised, but each measure works on its own too.

What happens to my data? Strictly confidential. Nothing is shared with third parties unless you explicitly request it (e.g. for a funding application).

The Next Step

If you're considering whether energy consulting is right for you, this is exactly the right moment for an initial consultation. It's free, no-obligation, and at the end you know more.
